Blown-in insulation
Most Spencer homes were built before 1970, and a large share have original attic insulation that has been compressing for 50 to 80 years. Northwest Iowa sits in Climate Zone 6, where the federal government recommends R-49 to R-60 in the attic - a standard that nearly every pre-1980 Spencer home falls short of by a wide margin. Blown-in material fills uneven attic floors completely, including the odd corners and tight eave areas that rigid batts cannot reach. See the full blown-in insulation process and what to expect from start to finish.
